Lorsque Matteo, un garçon italien de 8 ans, a inventé le mot "petaloso" pour un projet scolaire l'année dernière, il ne pensait pas que son idée irait aussi loin.

Il a décrit une fleur avec de nombreux pétales, et le terme qu'il a créé a un sens grammatical comme une combinaison de "pétale" et du suffixe "-oso/a" ("plein de").

Comment naît un mot ?

Il existe des processus pour former un nouveau mot, même si souvent nous les inventons sans nous en rendre compte.

"Les mots sont créés spontanément par les locuteurs, simplement parce que nous avons besoin d'exprimer un concept. Et si nous n'avons pas le mot, nous essayons de l'expliquer ou de l'inventer", explique Javier Bezos, spécialiste en orthotypographie à la Fundación del Espagnol Urgente (Fundéu).

Mais il y a aussi des mots créés avec préméditation, comme"nulle part"qui dérive de rien et signifieignorer ou rabaisser quelqu'un.ou le mot"mileuriste"qui est utilisé en Espagne pour définir une personne qui gagne 1 000 euros ou moins, c'est-à-dire qu'elle a un faible salaire.

"Une fois, une personne l'a utilisé dans une interview et maintenant il est utilisé normalement", a déclaré Bezos à BBC Mundo.

Oui,quelqu'un peut-il créer un mot?"Oui, même si cela peut réussir ou non", répond le spécialiste.

"La langue est comme un organisme vivant, elle évolue toujours avec l'introduction de nouveaux mots et la disparition d'autres. Il n'y a pas d'ensemble de mots fermé et strict comme on le pense parfois dans le dictionnaire", ajoute-t-il.

Selon les spécialistes, la majorité des mots nouveaux en espagnol entrent parmots d'autres langues. On les appelle l'étrangéisme ou les emprunts.

"Une raison évidente est la nécessité de se référer à une chose, une personne, un concept animal, etc. pour lesquels il n'y a pas de mot en espagnol, par exemple des mots indigènes commeCondor(du quechua),tomate(de Nahuatl) oupiranha(du guarani) qui ont été introduites en espagnol pour ensuite entrer dans le reste des langues européennes », explique Paz González, professeur de linguistique espagnole à l'Université de Leiden, aux Pays-Bas.

"La dérivation et la composition sont productives et cela dépend du langage lequel des deux processus sera le plus fructueux", a déclaré González à BBC Mundo.

"Par exemple, le néerlandais est excellent pour créer de nouveaux mots grâce à la composition :Système de remboursement des médicamentsqui signifie "système d'assurance des médicaments". Mais l'espagnol ne fait pas ce type de compositions,c'est beaucoup plus modeste" précise-t-il.
